KBXLIGHTING

My name is Keith, and I am kbxlighting. I've been interested in lighting my entire life. I've been working with moving lights for the last ten years, and I consider this my specialty. I provide lighting services to small venues in and around Chicago, Illinois.

stolen lighting equipment

hello everyone,

my head is sort of spinning right now, so i’m not sure how coherent this will be. there seems to be a lot of concern (which i am grateful and thankful for) so i thought i’d write up what has happened.

last night, my car was broken into and nearly all of my lighting equipment was stolen. in total, it was about $7,000 worth of stuff. they got all of my fixtures and LED lights; everything except my console and cables (the console is the most expensive single item i have, so i’m thankful for this). the console is tiny and easy to move/transport; given the situation, this was why i had removed it–but only it–from the car.

the car will be ok – aside from a smashed/missing rear passenger window, everything else seems fine.

those of you that know me (or have come to know me over the last year or so) know how much i love doing this stuff. it’s not about money, or greed, or even being the best. this is the only thing that i love more than the computer/IT thing i do as a day job. i love music, i love the art, the creative side of it all, and i love being a part of any and every show. i have come to love the people around the art, and those that make it all work and go. i love being able to express myself through the lighting, but even more so, i love supporting the band, the music, and it’s mood and spirit, through the lighting. i’ve been doing this since i was in grade school, i got more serious about it in high school, and over the last year or so i’ve been able to build it into something bigger, to the point where i’m working nearly every friday and saturday night, and sometimes even more.

it really breaks my heart to have all this suddenly just gone, and (for now) it’s even worse because i have no idea how i will recover from it (insurance is a big unknown at this time). i plan to rebuild, but it will undoubtedly take some time. i would love to think that the equipment will be recovered, or that my insurance will just cut me a check, but i also know that i can’t count on this. hopefully i’ll have some more answers this week.

this is about all i can get out right now. i’ll write another note later on, if nothing else, as an update.

i know many of you are concerned. i’ve already lost count of the texts, e-mails, and other messages i’ve received. i’ve even gotten a couple paypal donations already. i can’t even begin to express how happy it makes me to know that you are all so willing to support me with this. whether it’s emotionally, financially, or whatever…you all are amazing, and i could not ask for better friends. thank you. thank you for reading this, thank you for your support, and thank you if you’ve ever come to or played in a show i’ve worked on. it’s been fun, and i want to be able to continue doing this as soon as i possibly can.

if you are able and willing to help me sort this out financially, my paypal account is kbx81x@gmail.com and, while i hate asking for donations, i don’t know what else i can do right now. a lot has been taken from me, making it tough to work out. regardless, thank you all again – at very least, please repost this and help spread the word. i love you all.
